Research on Quality and Safety Strategies of Cosmetics under Platform Supervision Mechanism

Abstract: Since the reform and opening up, China’s sustained economic development, coupled with the rise of new consumption patterns such as e-commerce shopping, live-streaming marketing and overseas purchasing agents, has fueled the continuous prosperity of the cosmetics industry. As daily consumer goods, cosmetics quality is directly related to people’s life and health. Incidents involving substandard cosmetics not only damage corporate reputation and interests but also endanger consumers’ health and lives, further triggering public distrust and questioning of the entire cosmetics industry and regulatory authorities. While the booming cosmetics industry provides people with numerous benefits and conveniences, it also poses many new challenges to regulators. From the perspective of cosmetics quality and safety supervision, and considering information asymmetry and bounded rationality, this paper constructs a tripartite evolutionary game model among cosmetics manufacturers, beauty reviewers, and platform regulators, and analyzes the mutual influence mechanism of strategy choices among different stakeholders and the evolutionary trend of each participant’s strategic decisions.
