Abstract

This research takes Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao and The Straits Times’ China-related reports since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as the research object. By developing a news corpus and integrating frame theory with content analysis, the research leverages AntConc corpus software to scrutinize the perception of China by Singapore’s mainstream media. The analysis reveals that the two newspapers predominantly present China as a nation that is politically impartial and congenial, experiencing steady economic progress, and undergoing rapid advancements in culture and technology. This representation underscores the escalating social power of China in international discourse.
